I am just your average guy who has a lot of varied interests in the world, who happens to be rather vocal about my beliefs and opinions on some subject matter, which is fairly obvious if you have read any of my posts here on this blog. I currently live in Burbank, CA with my husband Chris, who I have been with since 1997. Together we have 2 furry children of the feline persuasion who are ridiculously spoiled and together we own & run an internet consulting firm.
Chris and I met in San Diego in February of 1997 and had a wedding ceremony (not legally recognized, of course) in August 1998 that was attended by our family & friends. This is what we consider to be our true marriage. In 2002 we were registered as Domestic Partners with the State of California when the State expanded its RDP program. In July 2008 we were legally married in the City of West Hollywood, which is still valid to this day despite the many legal challenges and desparate attempts by the right wing & religious wackos. As a result of the many battles that we have had to go through to obtain at least some resemblance of equality for our relationship over the past 14 years, we are both extremely fierce advocates of the fight for national same sex marriage and marriage equality. It is simply outrageous that our marriage certificate is considered something of a collector’s item now, or that we are classified as “one of the 18K” while other couples just like us are currently denied the right to obtain the same recognition that we have. Of course it is also extremely annoying, beyond words, that our legal and valid marriage is still not recognized by the federal government, despite the US Constitution’s Full Faith and Credit Clause which clearly states that it should be.
For more on this subject, while it is sadly out of date due to work and other time constraints, please visit one of my other blogs GayMarriageTruth.com.
We are not just fierce about marriage equality. We are also feel just as strongly about teen LGBT issues, especially suicide prevention. We have been long time supporters of The Trevor Project, and more recently we have been thrilled with the great national exposure given to Dan Savage’s It Gets Better project. I am not ashamed to say that the first time I saw Google’s IGB ad on Glee (yes, we love that show) I actually cried, it moved me so much. Our big, long time dream would be to have enough money that we could open an LGBT youth shelter that would provide a safe, caring place for teens to live after being kicked out of their homes.
Our next great love is animals. We are very partial to small, independently run no-kill animal shelters and we show this in our business practices. We appreciate what larger groups like the various SPCA and Humane Societies do, but it is the smaller groups that we believe make the biggest impact and need the most donations and attention from the public. Our biggest regret currently is that we must live in apartments rather than owning our own home, so we are restricted in the number of pets we can have.
When not being an activist/advocate, or working as a business owner/software developer, I enjoy a variety of activities including cooking, photography, traveling, spending time with the cats, television (Glee, Southland, sci-fi/fantasy, etc.), independent gay movies (including creating websites for them) and founding & running the largest fan website on the net for the TV show Southland on TNT. As a result of that site I have been lucky enough to meet and interview numerous members of the cast & crew of the show, visit the set and more.
